Ineh The Musical: Exquisitely celebrating nation builders

Ineh The Musical: Exquisitely  celebrating nation builders

by Prisca Sam-Duru
Over the years, women’s desire to be liberated from the perceived myth that the place of the woman is only in the kitchen, in addition to harsh economic realities have forced both the father and mother out of the home in search of standard means of livelihood. And as time progresses and things become more and more difficult, the children are left in the hands of house helps or all by themselves. A situation many believe is responsible for moral decadence and high level of ills in the society.
A new musical project, Ineh The Musical, from the Ijewere Production, captures these unsettling issues in the family. Produced by Mr Fredrick Ijewere whose true life story is being enacted in Ineh, the musical chronicles events that shape the family especially as regards parenting which obviously makes or mars the family life and society in general. It asks pertinent questions such as, Is it proper for the father and mother to be career people living the children at home.? How do we take care of the next generation? Who is watching over our children while the father and mother busy themselves finding daily bread.?  The questions seem endless and Ineh attempts to put forward these questions hoping that viewers would find desired answers.

Rehearsal of Ineh The Musical at the National Theatre

A sneak preview of Ineh The Musical held on Tuesday at the Cinema Hall 1, National Theatre Iganmu, Lagos, revealed how captivating, inspiring, exciting, entertaining as well as creative the family piece is. The solemn moment that ensued when the amiable teacher (Tosan) announces her resignation due to pressure from the family calls for reflection of every mother on how her family is faring at the moment.
Directed by veteran Artistic Director Adeniran Makinde, arguably one of the best in the industry having directed the likes of Saro The Musical, Khaki-a-go-go(A dance opera), Sango(film), Jesus Christ The Super Star (opera) etc, and with Abiodun Abe who has designed some of the best and most difficult play sets like Kurunmi by Ola Rotimi and Langogbodo by Wale Ogunyemi, as the technical Director, Ineh is nothing but a world class musical.
Ineh The Musical premierres in September and runs through December 2016 at the Cinema Hall 1, National Theartre, Iganmu Lagos. Choice of venue according to Ijewere, is “Intended to ensure that the designed audience, family, does not miss out of the show as the project’s intention is to have a rappour with the masses since it is embedded with a global message projecting issues confronting the globe.”
Lending her voice to how badly family values have depleted, Tosan said, “we are confronted by a generation that is rude, lacks management and ability to take charge in matters regarding nation building such as moral behaviours, ability to make good choices during election and being patriotic and selfless. This calls for the need to make a decision on how the family is run to prevent calamitous situations.”

Adeniran Makinde explained that Ineh’s is the “ Ineh is a story that captures life itself, emotion of every woman. The story moves itself in a multidimensional direction, points directly to sometimes, what the government of the day will use in determining the economic factor.
